Choose a plan for a logger from the Devices page, add High Data, check out — and stop a logger renewing when you no longer need it.
Subscriptions are managed from the Devices page rather than the billing area, because a subscription belongs to a specific logger. The Subscription column shows where each one stands.
You'll need the Editor role or higher, and your organization needs billing set up first — subscribing and starting a trial are both gated behind it. Set up Billing for your Organization
Subscribe a device
- Go to Devices.
- Select the subscription status in the Subscription column for the logger you want — it reads No Subscription for a logger that has never been subscribed.
- In Device Subscription, choose from Select Plan.
- Select Subscribe.
You'll see "Successfully added subscriptions." and the Subscription column will update.
If this is the first thing your organization has ever subscribed, a confirmation appears first — see If this is your organization's first subscription.
Subscribe several devices at once
- On Devices, tick the loggers you want.
- Select Subscriptions in the toolbar, then Subscribe.
- In Device Subscriptions, choose a plan for each group. Loggers are grouped by type, so a selection of cellular loggers appears as one group with one plan choice.
- Select Subscribe.
The Subscriptions menu shows how many of your selection each action applies to — Subscribe (2) means two of the loggers you ticked can be subscribed. Anything already subscribed, or marked Exempt, isn't counted and won't be affected.
Add High Data to a logger you've already subscribed
If a logger is already on Standard and you want to add High Data, use Upgrade rather than subscribing it again.
- On Devices, tick the logger.
- Select Subscriptions, then Upgrade.
- Check the plan shown. There's nothing to pick — the upgrade follows from the plan the logger already has.
- Select Subscribe.
The logger goes into your cart, and only the High Data part is charged — for the time between now and your annual renewal date. The Standard coverage you've already paid for isn't charged again.
High Data is for when you want more frequent data uploads on a cellular enabled data logger. It isn't available for Wi-Fi or radio loggers.
What the Subscription column shows
It reads | Meaning |
No Subscription | Never subscribed. Not covered. |
Trial with an end date | Covered by your organization's free trial until that date. |
A plan name with Starts and a date | Subscribed, with the plan beginning on that date — you'll see this during a trial. |
A plan name with Renews and a date | Active, and set to renew on that date. |
A plan name with Ends and a date | Active, but not set to renew. Coverage stops on that date. |
Pending Checkout | In your cart, waiting to be paid for. Not yet covered. |
Exempt | Excluded from subscriptions by METER. Nothing to do here. |
If this is your organization's first subscription
Subscribing your organization's very first logger starts your 14-day free trial. A confirmation appears first: "This will start a 14-day trial for your organization. After the trial, the selected plan will begin automatically unless you cancel beforehand."
Your organization gets one trial.
Subscribing during a trial
While a trial is running, every logger is already covered, so choosing a plan doesn't charge anything yet. The Subscription column shows the plan as starting on the day your trial ends.
What you subscribe during the trial is what carries over when it finishes.
When you'll be charged
Unless your organization is on a trial, subscribing a logger puts it in your cart rather than charging you right away. The Subscription column reads Pending Checkout, and the cart icon in the top bar shows how many items are waiting.
- Select Go To Cart in the Device Subscription dialog, or the cart icon in the top bar.
- Check the items, then select Checkout.
- Confirm, and you'll be taken to the payment provider's page to pay.
Your logger isn't covered until that payment clears — not when you select Checkout. If the payment is declined, the invoice stays open and the logger stays in your cart, so nothing is lost and you can pay again when you're ready.
Your cart shows each item with the period it covers, a subtotal, sales tax where it applies, and an estimated total. Any Available Balance is applied before tax and appears as its own line. A logger added part-way through your organization's year is charged a prorated amount covering only the time to your annual renewal date.
You can also enter a Subscription Code directly in the cart to put credit toward what you owe.
If your balance covers the whole amount, you're not sent anywhere to pay. Confirm, and you'll see Payment Complete with a View Invoice link.
To take something out, use Remove From Cart in the Device Subscription dialog, or Clear Cart to empty it.
Understanding Your Charges and Invoices
Unsubscribe a device
Unsubscribing means "don't charge me for this again." It doesn't switch the logger off, and it doesn't refund anything. The coverage you've already paid for runs to its end date as normal.
Watch the Subscription column to see the change. Before, it reads the plan name and Renews with a date. After, it reads the same plan name and Ends with the same date.
- Go to Devices and select the subscription status for the logger.
- In Device Subscription, select Unsubscribe.
It takes effect straight away — there's no confirmation step — and you'll see "Unsubscribe successful."
Unsubscribe several devices
- On Devices, tick the loggers.
- Select Subscriptions in the toolbar, then Unsubscribe.
- At Confirm Unsubscribe, select Confirm.
The confirmation tells you it applies to every logger you've selected. You'll see "Devices unsubscribed." when it's done.
If you change your mind
Subscribe the logger again from Device Subscription, exactly as you would normally. As long as the coverage date hasn't passed, there's no charge and nothing goes into your cart — the logger is already paid for, so it goes straight back to Renews with the same date.
Refunds
There's no refund for unsubscribing. Unsubscribing only affects the next renewal.
If you've been charged for something you didn't expect, contact METER support.
